Universiti Malaya

I am an Indian State Board student currently studying Grade 12 and planning to pursue a Bachelor’s in Economics at Universiti Malaya. One of my main reasons for considering Malaysia is the Islamic environment and opportunities to learn Islamic knowledge.

I currently have around one year before applying, so I wanted to ask:

\- Is admission for Economics at UM mainly grades-focused, or do extracurriculars like leadership, volunteering, sports, and community work also matter for international students?

\- I scored around 98.5% in Grade 11, and I am also a Hafiz of the Quran(certified). Would that be competitive, enough for admission?

\- I have not taken IELTS yet. What score is usually considered safe? Is SAT required or valued by UM? Do they also value JEE scores?

\- Besides UM, what universities would you recommend as backup options, I am also interested in IIUM.

\- Would learning Bahasa Melayu before applying be beneficial?

\- How affordable is UM for middle-class Indian students, and are scholarships or part-time work opportunities realistically available?

\- How should I apply, directly or through a consultant like Youruni etc. Does it require extra curricular certificates, personal essays etc.?
