2-week old is staying awake 2+ hours
Half here for solidarity, half hoping there is a magical hack out there or tips or insights on what I’m doing wrong 😩. My baby is so sweet and has some great days where he goes down like clockwork, gets set in the bassinet no problem, and has nights where he’s back to back sleeping eating popping and back to bed. But every other night or so for the past week he has had at least one episode where he just will NOT go to sleep, and soon enough it’s 2-3 hours since he’s slept. That should be unheard of for newborns!! I’ve read once they’re overtired they get cortisol spikes that give them a second wind and to avoid keeping him awake too long, but I can’t put together what I’m doing differently to trigger him staying awake. I rock him, he will be falling asleep in my arms or fall asleep in his bouncer, and simply wake up once he’s in the bassinet, and soon enough we’re in a vicious cycle of him being awake too long and then he’s staying up because he’s hungry again. Diaper changes rouse him awake too, which seems like a cruel joke because he starts sleeping after a feed, but he poops and I can’t just leave him in that before doing down for a nap!
I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced the same and put together what might be causing it I might be missing, or hacks to get them out of the overtired response. Or just join me in being overwhelmed by it all 🫠.
