CA OT onboarding: THC urine screen after 2024 protections?
Hi everyone. I searched the sub but didn’t find a clear recent answer about CA OT onboarding after the 2024 cannabis employment protections went into effect.
I’m going through onboarding for a non-DOT OT role in California, and one of the requirements is a rapid urine drug screen through Concentra. The pre-employment screening form only says “rapid drug test” and doesn't say “no THC” or anything like that.
For CA OTs who have onboarded recently, especially in hospital, rehab, or SNF settings, how are employers handling THC urine results now? Is it still treated as disqualifying, or does it really depend on the employer/policy? I’d also appreciate input from other CA healthcare settings if you’ve gone through similar onboarding.
I’m asking because I know urine screens can reflect past metabolite presence rather than active impairment, and I’m unclear how employers are applying the law in practice.
Not looking for ways around a test or judgment. I’m mostly hoping to hear recent experiences (whether people were cleared, had to retest, had an offer affected, or saw it handled another way).
TIA!
