CMV: There is no good Argument that people from the USA should be referred to as anything but Americans.

This is a terminally online post as no one in the real world cares about this stuff but Im making this post anyway.

Ive seen some discourse online that its wrong to refer to people from the United States of America as Americans, with people proposing other silly names like Usonian and United Statieans.

The main reason for this ive seen is people don't like that the US "claimed the name American when it refers to two entire continents."

This argument falls apart when you realize the names they're suggesting has the exact same issues. The USA isn't the only "united states" in the world, why refer to the people with an even broader term like United Statians?

The people of the United States of America should be called Americans, just like the people of the United Mexican States are Mexicans.

Id be surprised if someone posted a good argument but im all ears if anyone has a good reason.

CMV: Calling the country "Turkey" is fine, and its wrong to force people to refer to it as "Turkiye"

For context I am not Turkish, just confused about why they are pushing a different pronunciation on the world. I understand that its Turkiye in their language and that makes sense, but Turkey forcing the rest of the world to adopt this pronunciation seems wrong. Its like if the US forced all Spanish speaking countries to call them "The United States" instead of "Estados Unidos."

Its a translation, the country name in English is Turkey so why should it be called anything else?

No one calls Japan Nihon, no one calls Germany Deutschland, etc.

Turkey shouldnt get special rules.

This may be out of touch and if so, change my view!
