Uncalibrated camera on Viture Beast
Although almost no one mentions that The Beast glasses build in RGP camera is detected as USB web cam and therefore can be used e.g. for FPV videos like DIY recordings or streaming. I personally found this use case especially interesting and threating it as a bonus functionality. I'd suggest to highlight this in promo materials as this info is never mentioned neither in official web site nor in most of reviews (only mentioned by Hubwood on youtube).
I was able to capture video and sound on Windows (Camera app) and MacOS (QuickTime app). There's also tiny white led above the cam indicating its working.
Hovewer, due to some circumstances this camera usage is very limited:
- Camera itself seems to be uncalibrated. Its video is very dark even in daylight room. It seems OK only with direct daylight. Any snadow results in dark zone on video. See the sample. I managed to improve quality a bit playing with camera brightness & saturation settings in Windows OS. Unfortunatelly, there's no such options on Mac OS.
- I was only able to access the cam on laptops (Windows and Mac), while it was not accessible on Iphone 15 Pro max with latest IOS installed. Some investigation showed Apple seems still didn't enabled UVC camera support in Iphones, which is very disappointing. Tried to connect it to available low-end Android tablet, but it didn't recognized glasses at all.
Proposals:
- as a short-term solution, please adjust default camera calibration so it can be usable for indoor light avideo capture as well as outdoor
- as long-term, please introduce camera settings options in glasses menu, possibly with autocalibration option
- as a workaround to bypass lack of ios camera support for iphones, it could be introduced some camera plugin in spacewalker app for ios?
