I'm attempting some first time repair at home on my older vehicle (2007). I was going to disconnect the battery and ECM before welding but also read to disconnect the air bag module as well. Is this typically done in body shops as well, or is it ultimately a low-risk item?

The module in my vehicle requires a lot of removal of the interior console to access the airbag module, which I'm not looking forward to.

EDIT: To be clear, I am only asking if the air bag module is typically disconnected prior to welding.
