Prednisone steroids for RA side effects on mental health
My partner (27m) has Rheumatoid Arthritis and ever since he started taking Prednisone, he seems to struggle more with his emotions. He’d become more impatient, irritable, and he was very depressed when he was on steroids in the past as well. He’s becoming more insecure about his appearance since the meds cause him to gain weight. He’d become numb and empty sometimes too. He’ll be taking Prednisone for 3 months and Temazepam (sleeping pills) for 4 weeks. It’s only been a week since he started taking the steroids and I’m worried his mental health might worsen overtime. I don’t know the dosage that he’s taking. How can I support him emotionally? What are your experiences with the steroids and how did you overcome the side effects? Did it get better? Does stress make RA worse? Please give me advice.
