Unemployment V Severance
Question first with explanation to follow: Can you not receive Unemployment payments until after your "severance coverage" has passed?
I was in the May batch of layoffs in Austin. Signed up for Unemployment on our "last day" of May 25th. Haven't received any Unemployment payment yet but Ive been submitting my claims every 2 weeks as Texas Workforce Commission said. Till now, the TWC site said they were "reviewing my claims"
Got a call today from TWC, the lady asked if I received severance. I said yes. She asked "paying for how long?" And I told her it was a lump sum for 2 months pay. She said thank you, then hung up.
Now, same day, in TWC it shows my claims are all at $0. This is my first time dealing with Unemployment, and of course they make the process complicated on purpose, but my question is can we not get Unemployment payments until after the "covered time" of the severance has passed? For example will I not get a payment for 2 months? That's fine if so, I get it, but wanted to be sure.
Thanks in advance!
