How can I confirm whether I’m “noble”?

I think I may have discovered that I’m secretly nobility 😅
While researching my Austrian/Bavarian family tree, I traced several branches back into the 1600s. In one line, I found a person who appears to have had some sort of title like “Edler vom …“

Now I’m wondering:
How do you actually confirm whether there is a real connection to a noble family?
Are there databases, books, archives, or published family trees where the lineages of these noble/landed families can be viewed? Especially for smaller Austrian or Bavarian noble families from the 16th–18th century?

I know that:

  1. sharing a surname means basically nothing,

  2. and that 99% of “I found out I’m noble” stories are probably nonsense 😄

But I’m curious whether there is a way to:
verify whether a specific “Edler von …” person actually belonged to a documented noble house, see whether descendants/side branches are known, and trace whether later non-noble branches could realistically descend from them.

Thanks!
