Is plastic mesh/grid okay for pigeon feet?

Hi, I have this cage which has a plastic mesh on the floor.

It was advertised as pigeon safe. The holes are 2.2cm.

Is it actually okay for pigeon feet, or can it cause issues?

My apartment complex installed bird netting on the roof that accidentally trapped a bonded pair of pigeons in our internal yard.

I’ve been feeding and giving water to them for 20 days; they literally can't survive without me right now.

I’m ready to adopt them and have a large cage set up. They already enter my apartment to eat, but I can’t handle them yet.

Is it better to wait for them to enter the cage voluntarily, or should I "trap" them by closing the door while they eat?

What’s the protocol for checking wild pigeons for diseases? They seem healthy but not sure, can I give them some medicine without going to the vet? Or should I bring them to be sure?

I want to do this the right way for both their sake and mine. Thanks in advance!
