It made lot of tip-tap dances prior to eating egg and it realized I meant pigeons no harm.
We found this baby wood pigeon on the streets without any nest in the surroundings.
Since we rescued multiple birds we took him home.
The thing is he eats good but it looks like can’t hold his head up.. or not for a long time.. also he likes to twist his neck as you can see on the first picture. He holds his neck toward his back instead of in front of him.
When feeding he can put his head in front of him but he automatically turns it back when he’s done.
We can’t see any injured on it..
and since we never rescued a wood pigeon is it normal for his age to not be able to hold his head up good or just turning his head more to the back then in front of him?
Hi all. Please give me some advice on this pigeon.
My friend let me know about it cowering in a corner and it looked like they had a small nick on its toe. I went to get them and it turned out to be a sizeable gash on their stomach area. I’ve applied pressure until the bleeding has mostly stopped, and then disinfected it. They’re now in a shallow box with some seed and a dish of water. It’s covered so they don’t stress out but we can hear them and it sounds like they’re eating seeds or moving around inside at least.
Is there anything like medicine I could get? Myself and some passer-by’s called local helplines for wild animals but none were answering or interested.
Even if there’s nothing to do, is there a way to make them comfortable through the night?
Thank you!
I can't put him back in the nest as there is a dead sibling in there, parents come back every now and again but only go to the nest not on the floor where the baby is very loudly cheeping.. have put it in a box for now as I don't want to leave it out overnight for a predator to get to, what should I do? One of the parents I believe in pic 4
I just found these two pigeons under a bench near my house. I wasn’t sure whether to leave them but there are a lot of dogs off leashes around so I thought I should take them in.
I’m letting them rest in a quiet room and am trying to research how to look after them until they’re ready to leave.
From my preliminary research I think they’re just below fledgling age as they are fairly barely skinned underneath. I’ve found a video where someone hand feeds hers peas. I was thinking to leave some peas in their enclosure and see if they self feed. Then if they don’t I can hand feed them.
Any advice on this?
Edit - I looked around and couldn’t see any signs of a nest or parents.
The first egg was laid on 5/3, the second on 5/4. After that, both pigeons, or as we named them, Bing and Bong, started breeding!
Around 5/18-5/19 we noticed a change in behaviour and how they were sitting so we figured either the babies already hatched or were very close. But since the nest is higher up and we didn't want to disturb them, we didn't really know - until today!!
When I looked out the window, I saw some movement and a little later I could clearly see two little baby heads..they are so incredibly cute😍😍
Anyways...here are Ding and Dong! (Yes, very creative, we know hahahaha)
Hello, I'm 16 years old and almost two years ago, I found a pigeon outside. He was very small, seemed to have fallen from somewhere, and had injuries on his head as if another bird had pecked at him. Despite veterinary care, he lost both eyes, which led us to decide to keep him rather than release him as we had originally planned. He lives in a cage — we have two cats and we'd rather avoid any accidents. Now that I have a better awareness of animal welfare, I'm starting to ask myself some questions about him.
He lives in a cage measuring 65.5cm x 42.5cm x 136.5cm, and I think that might be too small for him. He has seeds, water, toys, and we take him out occasionally so he can bathe in the sink. He doesn't fly — he just sometimes flaps his wings very quickly as if he's trying, but since he can't see, I think it frightens him. We don't take him outside. Generally, when we touch him, he 'bites' us at first, then after a few minutes he calms down and gives little 'kisses.' Do you have any advice?
Found this little pidgelet (squeaker? Peep?) outside a shop on a main road this afternoon. Looked very scared, backed into a corner, not moving, possibly dehydrated.
Have taken them home, put them in a box with a ceramic bowl full of shredded paper, water container and a few defrosted peas in case they’re hungry.
I’m new to pigeons, and was wondering if they should they be able to eat on their own? Is there anything else I can do to help them feel safe and recover? 🙏
Ran home just to bring back some actual seeds for them xd
I feel like his orb-like shape and beautiful colouring really translated well into this piece.
Since yesterday evening this pigeon is in my balcony
Its not flying when I’m getting closer but flapping wings ( i think its scared when I’m trying to go near)
She is going to shit and the seems sleepy/ lethargic. I think loose motions but I’m not sure.
Its not eating food or water which i kept beside her Please help what to do
Hellooo I'm trying to feed some cute pigeons in my town and I've been giving them food for about 5 days now. Whenever I put seed down I go and sit like 30 feet away or so and mess around with my phone or whatever for like 25-30 minutes and usually they don't come down. After I get too cold I go sit in my car and then they might come peck around. Do I just need to keep going and they'll eventually warm up to me? I don't live in a big city so they aren't completely desensitized to humans.
I feed a small flock of feral pigeons at home, and I've finally got a live cam set up on their usual spot so anyone who wants to can drop in and watch them.
Watch live here: https://pibb.in
Or watch on Streamplace: https://stream.place/pibb.in
5:30 to 19:30 UTC every day - off overnight since the pigeons roost elsewhere.
Figured some of you might enjoy having a chill background stream of someone else's flock to check in on - there's even picture-in-picture mode so you can casually watch while doing something else.
If you spot a particularly handsome bird or weird behaviour, let me know - I love hearing what other pigeon people notice.
