Wikipedia Deadnames Trans Musician
so. i was looking into the life and work of Wendy Carlos, a trans woman and musician who helped create the first synthesizer, released the first ambient record, and recorded the first electronic record to go platinum in america (also recorded the soundtrack for A Clockwork Orange, a few songs on The Shining, and the original Tron). welllll wikipedia thinks it's cute to deadname her in the first line of her article, and their reasoning for it is "because she released records under her deadname prior to coming out." even though she had all of her old records re-released under her chosen name, like, 50 years ago. "but what if someone finds an old record under her deadname at a second hand store? we want them to find her!" SHE'S BEEN TRANSED FOR OVER 50 FUCKING YEARS! IF YOU LOOK HER UP BY HER DEADNAME AND THE NAME OF THE RECORD, GOOGLE WILL PULL UP *WENDY CARLOS*.
i left my opinions on the talk page but all you'll see in response is "it's not transphobic, it's just factual/we're going off wikipedia's manual." as if that shit isn't dated as hell.
