Is grammar really important for speaking german?
I’m from Ticino and I’m learning German so I can go and work in Zurich. I’m taking courses that focus almost entirely on grammar and I’m going mad – I really find it impossible to understand.
My question is: is it really necessary to learn it? When learning other languages, I’ve noticed that the best way is to listen and try to speak.
I now speak (as well as Italian) French and English, but even though I make quite a few grammatical mistakes, it almost seems as if people don’t care. Is it the same for German or Swiss German in Zurich?
Thanks in advance!
