Women of Zürich: What is an appropriate way for a guy to aproach you and say Hi?

A couple of months ago, my long-term relationship ended, and I finally feel emotionally ready to start dating again.

That said, I don't really want to go down the dating app route. I'd much rather meet someone the old fashioned way, whether that's in a bar, at the supermarket, or somewhere else in everyday life. The problem is that it's been a very long time since I last did that.

Over the past few weeks, I've caught myself noticing women at the HB or at the supermarket who caught my attention or just seemed genuinely nice, but I never knew how to start a conversation without making them feel uncomfortable.

So I have a question for the women of Zurich:

What's an okay way for me to say hi? Have you had any positive experiences where someone approached you and it felt flattering rather than uncomfortable?

Chatbots three times more persuasive than Google

I’m a journalist at SWI swissinfo.ch and recently looked into how AI chatbots are becoming a new layer between consumers and businesses.

One study I cite found that chatbots were nearly three times more effective than traditional search engines at steering users toward sponsored products, often without users noticing.

The piece also looks at Swiss companies, GEO, AI poisoning and consumer protection.

I’d be interested in how people here think about this: are chatbot recommendations already replacing Google for shopping decisions? And should they be regulated differently from search ads?

Churchbells

I live surrounded by five churches, which means I’m involuntarily subscribed to the loudest newsletter in history.

Sundays: bells at 7, 9, 10 and 11, fifteen minutes each. That’s an hour of ding dong for a city where nearly 50% have left the church. At this point they’re not calling the faithful, they’re just flexing.

What are you thinking about?

Package theft

Has anyone else in Zurich noticed an increase in package theft? It feels like it’s becoming more common, especially in apartment buildings where deliveries are left in the entrance or mailbox area. I’m wondering if I’ve just been unlucky or if others have had the same experience. I even suspect my neighbours… no need to accuse the junkies for everything… have people become so uncivilised and inconsiderate?

Relocating to Zurich - what are your favorite small towns nearby?

We are a couple in our 20's and 30's relocating to Zurich with our dog. We will be working from home most days but want to be within 40-ish minutes by transit and car (we do have a car) to the city center. We prefer to live in a quieter, smaller town with more space but worry about isolation. We're both introverts and rarely if ever go out, but we're concerned that we're going to feel isolated and alone. Even though we don't socialize much, it's still valuable to feel like you're part of a community, even if its small. Anybody can relate? What areas would you suggest for us based on this criteria?

How fast can one get an endocrinological surgery?

We just visited our home country and did a health checkup. Husband (36m) has high calcium in blood, high parathormone: most likely needs a surgery to remove an adenoma.

We’re considering either to up our premiums here and do a surgery here or go back home and do it there.

Also, would health insurance cover MEN syndrome genetic testing?

Trouble finding Nachmieter/successor tenant for apartment in Oerlikon. What am I missing?

We’re looking for a successor tenant (Nachmieter) for our apartment in Zürich Oerlikon, needed by 17 August. It’s been posted for over a week on Flatfox and Homegate and we’ve had basically no interest. I’ve posted on Facebook housing groups, 5 people sent me requests to view but ALL of them cancelled/no-show, the listing on Flatfox/Homegate has zero requests coming in at all right now.

A few details

105m² loft-style penthouse, top floors (6th), with a 23.5m² private rooftop terrace
Right by Bahnhof Oerlikon
Net rent CHF 3,360 + CHF 210 utilities

I’m trying to figure out whether it’s the listing, the price, the timing, or the platforms. For anyone who’s found a Nachmieter in Zürich recently:

Is a week of silence normal in this market right now, or does it signal something’s off?
Anything about the listing itself — photos, wording, timing — that commonly kills interest?

Grateful for any honest feedback, even blunt. Link in comment section.

Switzerland is expensive, but today the healthcare felt worth it

My wife gave birth today at a hospital in Zurich.
The care was honestly amazing from start to finish.
People often talk about how expensive Switzerland is, but today it really felt like our health insurance was worth every franc.
Also… I became a dad today. :))

As a tourist, I finally understand the Iseltwald frustration

We were on one of those bus tours. 20 mins, photo, back on bus. We wanted coffee but no time. Locals couldn't even get home.

I completely agree with you guys now. Sorry we were part of the problem — everything was set by the tour.

Next time we're coming by train and staying longer. Where should a family actually shop for real Swiss products?

Video of our rushed day in comments.

Learn how to yodel?

Hello Reddit friends, I want to learn how to yodel, preferably in Zurich. Are there places where it's possible? Do you know of any? I have zero experience doing that, and I'm also not a singer, but I just want to try it. I did once on an organized workshop and kinda liked it.

I speak English, and ok German, but sadly no Swiss German yet

Where to Repair an Electric Piano

My wife has a Korg electric piano that unfortunately has an awful popping sound from the speaker after a bit. It’s nothing fancy but I’d like to get it repaired for her.

Reached out to a few shops with not a whole lot of luck and Korg themselves have been quite useless.

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations for something affordable?

Dear Canadians, could you pls stop?

I understand your frustration with loosing the game, but could you please stop driving around the city honking the horns?

It's disproportionally much honking for a several tens thousands of Canadians in Switzerland.

ZOA City team up (Armin van Buuren)

Hey there, I (M34) was going to see Armin next Saturday at ZOA City with my wife but she got called up and can't make it. Asked my friends if they wanna go with me but their excitement shockingly didn't match mine. I wouldn't mind going by myself, but I figured I'd ask if anyone's in a similar situation or wants to team up and go together?
