Dr. Nicola Guess is the GOAT: Her Critique of Nick Norwitz

Dr. Nicola Guess is the GOAT: Her Critique of Nick Norwitz

Nick Norwitz could have been great. He isn't.

Nick Norwitz is one of those people who seems LEGIT. He's got Dartmouth, Oxford and Harvard on his CV, and MD, PhD after his name. Surely he knows what he's talking about? Sigh.

In this video I share my views on what genuine, deep competence takes (lots of hard boring work over many, many years [out of the limelight]), and how Nick's lack of "doing" (and his decision to abandon that path for internet fame) have let him down.

What a waste.

I have a 22 X5M, just drove the 26 X6Mc for a day, thoughts:

Better:

  • Suspension feels more damped, ie softer; is this better? Would need to track to say
  • Brakes feel better, again would have to track to fully judge
  • MMI portion of the screen is larger by an inch or so, otherwise seems similar

Worse:

  1. Ignoring looks, MMI / no buttons is janky & distracting and that's a fact not opinion
  2. Climate vents & overall cooling ability seems 60% or less of the 2022
  3. All interior materials are noticeably worse, corners cut EVERYWHERE (detail below)
  4. Seats are worse! They look the same, but ARE NOT the same; I'd say 50% worse
  5. Steering wheel is thinner, leather is plasticky, smaller? TOTALLY different feel

Overall

  • This vehicle felt 60% of 2022 in terms of luxury with corners cut everywhere
  • It's like going from an 2019 X7 to a 2019 X3, yet is $30k more expensive than mine
  • Inflation between 22 & 26 = 12%, so $15,000 more than inflation, or an additional 13%

So, basically, BMW is charing 13% more for a much less luxurious vehicle

My supposition is BMW is targeting 25% between price increase & cost cutting to pay for EV transition & keep profits rising.

TLDR:

  1. If you have a 2019-2022 BMW X5/6, keep it!
  2. No fucking way I'd buy a 2023+ X5/6
  3. BMW has no big magic trick anymore other than brand

Final sad thoughts:

  • I was more impressed with the Grand Wagoneer's improvement (compared to its OG) version I drove a week ago
  • The Lucid Gravity Dream is cheaper, faster, more luxurious, WAY better cargo
