E60 m5 as weekend car

Hey guys! I currently own an 06 x5 4.4L, an e92 328i, and recently a e36 m3, along with some other projects. Ive been wanting a more exotic car to put a few thousand miles a year at most on. And I’ve circled around to e60 m5s. I’d be looking at examples around 20k. It would be a dumb idea, but how bad? If it’s just to pick up my friends in and have a loud v10 every saturday, is it a fair idea?

2023 330i xDrive, good buy?

Hey everyone, sorry for formatting, posting from mobile.

I’m looking to purchase a pre-owned 23 330i with ~22k miles on the clock. Car was one owner, no accidents reported and has a gorgeous red interior that I love. Mostly looking to be sure this is a decent investment for the next few years at the price they’re asking. ~$36k out the door. Got all the trimmings, including the HUD, and it’s still in the manufacturer’s warranty for another ~18k miles. Anything to negotiate on or any tips?

Photos included. Thanks very much in advance!

Painting wheels - black or gunmetal?

I like these 401M wheels it came with...but I want them to better match the sportline aesthetic - black trim, grille, exhaust tips (color is imperial blue + tan). But I don't want the wheels to vanish completely. And gunmetal grey is kinda sexy! Also, would black help mask that xdrive height gap better? ChatGPT gave me these previews. Thanks!

Blind buy color

After having black and grey BMWs, I wanted to go for a change and get an individual color (brass metallic) for my 330e. I didn’t get the chance to see the color in real life. But luckily it turned out to be some of my favorite colors. The way it changes every time you look at it. Sometimes grey, then its more bronze depending on sunlight. According to insurance, the car is yellow. Not sure if I agree :-).

Just scooped this up. 2011 335i RWD M-Sport. 6 speed in LeMans blue. Such a gem!

Found this insane one owner, no accidents, bone stock, 75K mile example in Ohio. It sits along side my Long Beach Blue F87 M2 and B8 Audi S4.

One year after triple-bypass surgery, I finally have the energy to hand-wash the F10.

One year and two days after having a triple coronary artery bypass graft.

The car is a Dinan 550ix. It sat outside, un-driven, for a full year with only occasional power rinsing to keep the debris buildup to a minimum. Today I finally have the energy to actually do a contact wash and dry. The circa-2024 ceramic coating has worn off the top surfaces, but is alive and well everywhere else.
I’m feeling pretty good about how well it cleaned up. Heck, I might even take it around the block!

Potential issues with a 15 year-old 10k mile N52 automatic?

I’m looking at a 15 year-old 1-owner car with the N52 auto. It’s had regular maintenance (at least 4 oil changes and a new battery in 2022) mostly at the dealer, and appears quite clean. It’s at a BMW dealer about 300 miles away so I haven’t seen it in person yet.

It’s a non-M sport with manual climate control and no iDrive. A very basic car.

What potential issues am I looking at? Never bought a low-mileage BMW that’s more than 2 years old.

Thanks!

BMW M340i Touring with M3 widebody fenders and M3T rear end

Owned and built by @f81cs_340wb. He's the same guy that built F81 M3 CS some years ago.

Description of the car from the owner himself:

"After four years of using an F30 340i xDrive as my daily, I wanted something newer and more practical. The G21 M340i xDrive Touring offered the extra space, but I wanted the aggressive wide-body look of an M3 while keeping the M340i front end . . . That’s when the idea turned into a build!

A 2023 M340i xDrive with only 20,000 km served as the donor car, while a 2022 G21 Touring provided the chassis. The complete drivetrain and key components were transferred, together with M3 front and rear fenders and a G81 rear bumper.

The result is a unique M340i xDrive Widebody. The aggressive presence of an M3, combined with the comfort, practicality, and distinctive front-end design of the M340i. In my opinion, it truly offers the best of both worlds."

One week with a BMW X3 xDrive30i as a Volvo XC60 B5 owner

For the past one week, I’ve been driving my friend’s 2024 BMW X3 xdrive30i alongside my own 2024 Volvo XC60 B5, and I just wanted to share my personal experience. I drove around 1000 miles with the BMW. After this experience, I want my next car to be BMW.

To me, BMW felt like an energetic, aggressive, mischievous younger sibling who is ready to throw a punch. While Volvo felt like a calm and composed older sibling.

  1. The cold start caught me off guard. I didn’t expect the 30i to have that kind of roar. It many not be as loud as M cars but it is loud enough. My XC60 just makes a loud engine sound, but not a growl that puts smile on my face.
  2. From a stop, the BMW feels more eager to go and has punchier acceleration. I feel more connected with the car. My Volvo is nearly as quick as X3 with 6.5sec from 0-60 but acceleration is smoother and relaxed, not much fun but get's the work done.
  3. At higher highway speeds of 80+, the BMW feels effortless and feels like it wants to stay at that speed. With my XC60, I am much more aware of the speed. It feels like I have to throttle more to maintain higher speeds and as soon as I lift off the pedal, the car starts slowing down pretty quickly. BMW seems to carry the momentum better and just keeps gliding.
  4. On highway corners, handling is excellent with X3. I get more feedback from steering, and confident enough to take the corners with the same highway speeds. My Volvo handles good too, but I am not confident enough to cross the corners without slowing down, and I can feel more body movement.
  5. I am impressed by BMW's fuel efficiency. Even in the sport mode I am getting around 30 MPG. It's a genuine shock to me how it has that fuel efficiency even though it went above 4000RPM several times. In normal mode I get around 27 MPG with my Volvo on highways, the polestar (sport) mode drains the fuel like anything. In winters I get around 19 MPG on my Volvo.
  6. The biggest let down for me with BMW is the interior and the seat comfort. I felt my Volvo’s seating comfort is much better, and it is more roomier inside. The materials used for the BMW interior could have been better. This is my only complaint.
  7. Technology wise BMW is well advanced with iDrive with a lot of customizations and options. My Volvo kept it minimal without providing any fancy features like ambient lighting, gauge cluster customization, automatic parking etc. My Volvo has the buggy Google based infotainment system. BMW locks and unlocks itself when I walk away or approach it. I wish my Volvo had that.
  8. Talking about the design, both has their own design language, and honestly I love them both equally.

I am not sure about the longterm reliability or maintenance, and also not sure about latest BMW X3s. But, as soon as my XC60 builds around $10k in positive equity, I am ready to swap it with the so called "Ultimate Driving Machine". Atleast I will get a CPO one.

First BMW. 2022 430i

This is my first car purchase since my first car which was a ‘14 civic. Absolutely in love with it and have been trying to learn all about it so any advice or tips on what to expect is appreciated.
