New 2026 330i - perfect balance

Just bought this 330i M Sport after weeks of test driving cars and I couldn’t be happier with it.

I think it’s a perfect balance of comfort and handling. The engine is just punchy enough to be dangerous and the interior is clean and classy. I figured this might be the last model year before BMW injects even more screens into their interiors, so I had to jump on it. I can still see that 3 Series DNA in here. Love it.

I drove a bunch of other cars but the highlights were the Audi S3 and Lexus IS350. I also spent a couple days with an M235GC. That was fun, but weird for a BMW.

This 330i has every possible option in it down to the glass controls and metal switches. A really weird spec for a 330i, but I dig it - it feels like a mini flagship.

And yes, before you ask, of course I drove the M340/440. The B58 is an amazing engine. However with the price I got on this I couldn’t justify the $20k premium when this specific 330 checked every box I wanted.

I got this new for over 10% off MSRP with no add-ons or fees. I paid cash and am very happy with the outcome.

This is my first BMW after driving GTIs and Audis for 15 years.

Swapped my Shunbun for an SBGE283

I feel like I did everything backwards - my sports watch is a chunky Grand Seiko and my dress watch is a 10mm thick PANERAI.

As the title says, I traded my Shunbun for this SBGE283. I loved the Shunbun, but I’d had it a while and I realized that all my watches were light dialed and dressy. Now after some consolidation, I’ve got these two - and I think it’s a perfect pairing.

The SBGE283 feels fantastic. With the chunkiness and the thick bracelet, I’m very glad it’s titanium. I can imagine this would be a heavy brute if it was steel. As-is, it wears beautifully and had what I think I can say is Grand Seiko’s most easy to read dial. I love it as a sports watch. The lume is bright and the two colors are beautiful.

I wasn’t wholly convinced of Grand Seiko’s Evo9 cases after trying a white birch, but with this - I’m sold. The detail is amazing and, for some reason, I feel like they put more into the Ti cases - or maybe it’s just a more visible difference between the polish and brushing. Like the beveled edges on each bracelet link - incredible.

Anywhoooo thanks for coming to my ted talk.

Radiomir 40mm - surprisingly elegant

After trying one about 20 PANERAIs, I ended up picking this Radiomir as my first one. I feel a bit like it’s the anti-PANERAI, PANERAI, but damn if it isn’t an elegant and comfortable watch. The leather strap is very high quality and broke in after only an hour on my wrist. The case is about as thick as a Cartier Santos and looks very elegant. Even the buckle feels elegant and timeless, as it matches the wire lugs.

Yes, I’ve already ordered two more straps for it… and a tiny screwdriver.

I absolutely understand how people can get sucked into PANERAI collecting. There is just some kind of x-factor here with the design. I can’t articulate why it feels so premium and appealing, but it does.

I know a 42mm Luminor is in my future. If I’m brave enough, maybe a 44.

First PANERAI… Overwhelming options

I am currently shopping for my first PANERAI and there are so damn many variants it’s overwhelming.

I’m looking for a 42mm watch specifically. I tried a 44 and it felt huge but the 40mm Luminors just felt… off. I figure 42 is the sweet spot.

Does any have any 42mm favorites you’d suggest?

Episode two was phenomenal and much more engaging than the first

Title says it all. I really enjoyed the first episode but after watching the second, I feel like it came together a lot more. Really excited for the rest of the show. I wish it was more than just 10 :(

I bought something other than a Shunbun…

SBGH295 - a US special edition that comes with a lovely strap and folding clasp as well as the bracelet.

Same case as their most popular four seasons watches, but with a frost-y dial.

The watch looks beautiful and is very versatile. The hi-beat movement is almost as smooth as a spring drive, but definitely less accurate. It’s a cool piece of engineering, though, and I enjoy that GS makes it.

SBGE295 “Hotaka Forest” 🌳 Another killer dial by Grand Seiko

Wearing one of my favorites today - the SBGE295. Originally I was worried about the sizing, but on the wrist the watch wears great and is super comfortable. I compared it to a 44mm PANERAI and Omega and the GS wore smaller than both. I don’t know what black magic was worked on this case, but they made it super manageable.

I don’t care for all the nature inspirations / marketing that Grand Seiko attaches to their watches, but the dial on this one is beautiful nonetheless. It feels like a Seiko 5 GMT that has evolved to its final form… and I mean that in the best way possible.

I regularly get compliments on this one - more than any other watch in my collection. Half the time it’s folks who have no idea what Grand Seiko is but just like the look.

If you’re on the fence about these, I urge you to try it on before writing it off as “too big.” You might find yourself surprised…
