The SBGY007 is a much more versatile watch than I expected, especially when you dress it down a bit.

So excited to share that I’ve finally joined the shunbun family. I was in Osaka from May 13-16 and was unable to find it at any shop in Shinsaibashi.

Then went over to Kobe from May 16-18 and was unable to find it at any shop as well. Everyone was saying it’s sold out in Osaka until next month.

Just as I gave up and was at Kansai airport ready to depart, saw a GS pop up inside the airport and there they had the shunbun. Unfortunately could not get any additional discounts on top of the tax free, but still a massive discount for me as a Canadian.

On my shopping trip to Osaka I picked up my first Grand Seiko at Yodobashi camera Umeda, SBGE255. I’ve been debating about that or the SBGM221. The color and bracelet is what did it for me. Just love how the light reflects off the dial.

Added bonus as a Yodobashi points program member, I got 89,100 in points (1 point = ¥1) and ended up getting a second watch (Seiko Teal Alpinist) almost for free. I’m a resident of Japan, so tax free shopping doesn’t apply for me unfortunately. I had a wonderful shopping experience at Yodobashi camera, and came in a second time for an another bracelet adjustment. No issues doing that as well, great staff.

I visited Japan last year hoping to pick up my first Grand Seiko. I knew I wanted a Spring Drive because the movement is, for me, the coolest movement out there.
I was going for the Shunbun, but when I saw one in person, I didn’t fall in love with it the way I expected. The dial just wasn’t as vibrant or pink as I’d hoped.

Then I came across this one and immediately loved the dial color. The guy mentioned it was a special edition for the anniversary of the 9R Spring Drive movement, which made it feel even more fitting.
For a little while, I felt silly for not choosing one of Grand Seiko’s textured dials, since they all SO COOL! But that buyer’s regret is basically gone now. This has become a favorite of mine.

Went in looking for some options for the 221 and fell in love with this. GS store I n Kyoto. Very Japanese I was told by the folks there. Original strap pic for reference

I really like this watch SBGA483, the oomiya 44gs snowflake.

However I can't really find it available. At the moment there's one listing from Japan, but it has been re-polished on a buffing wheel rather than zaratsu repolishing by GS.

The other models I like (although the SBGA483 is my favourite so far) are:

SBGY011 Asaborake 44gs manual wind spring drive,

SBGA211 regular version of snowflake with titanium different shaped case

SBGA465G

All are readily available today.

Should I hold out for an unpolished SBGA483, or pick one of the other more readily available options?

You would not necessarily think that a canvas strap would work on a Grand Seiko dress watch but I really like the combination . It is the Mustard color canvas from Postale Watch Straps and the contrast with the silver birch bark gives a different look to the watch.

Just got it! All the research is all worth it. Fits like a glove 37 wears more like a 39, happy purchase.

I love my white birch and wear it all the time but have been thinking about a quartz for daily wear.

I love the rich dial and this is as affordable as it can get by GS standards

Bought this GS 6155 Special without thinking to much about the dial...paid under 1k. Too much?

As soon as I spotted this watch and its dial, I immediately fell in love with it. Was supposed to get it second hand in Ginza until someone beat me to it. In the end, I eventually gave in and got it at the Wako boutique.
