[SBGX263] Grand Seiko Bracelet adjustment madness

I realize fitting a bracelet is a bit of voodoo science, but I'm wondering how this is truly designed to fit.

I have a 6.5 inch wrist. Originally I had 5.5 links on the 12 side and 5 on the 6 side, but on warm days it felt too tight. I added a link, but then the head was moving around too much. I wanted to fix the tilt, so I had them move a link from the 6 side to the 12 side. I didn't really consider that removing one and adding it to the other actually makes a two-link difference.

So now I have 6.5 links on the 12 side and 4 on the 6 side. I think it's better, but it's kind of hard to say because on cooler days like it's been here recently, it's obviously going to move around more anyway.

When I look at the clasp, I just don't know where the center is supposed to be. The outer clasp is long, so do I consider where the top logo is, or the whole folding mechanism underneath? The logo is a bit towards my thumb side, but the inner part is towards the pinky side. Should I have the AD swap a half link back, or is having one side this much longer normal?

I know I'm being obsessive about it, I just want to get it right. Attached some pictures of how it sits. The photos are a little deceptive because I lined it up perfectly for the shot, but obviously it moves around during the day. Just curious what other people with similar wrists wound up doing and what worked for them.

Tried on a Shunbun today

…and I’m now 100% convinced it’s going to be my next watch.
The dial, the polishing, the feel of the titanium on the skin, it’s a beauty. Even with the plastic wrap on.
The weight is LIGHT, but I’m sure I would get used to it quickly…

Also, the dial of sakura petals floating on water compliments my arm quite well!

Atera Valley or White Birch UFA?

Guys, I am literally desperate, cos I cannot make a choice between those two. Usually, I am pretty much clear on what I want or what suits me better, but in case of those new incoming releases I am at a loss. My long time dream was White Birch and I almost preordered one, but after careful reviewing what's currently available on the Internet about the watch, I concluded that the new UFA White Birch has way more white dial than the original release had. The original colour was white/sliver, so the dial pattern was nicely contrasting. But now they made it "whiter", so one cannot see that gorgeous dial clearly. So I switched my interest into Atera Valley and was happy for the moment, but now, I see that the dial is sort of glossy and reflecting with the case, producing even more "steel presence". Besides the colour is close to my The Citizen (green washi) , so very similar.

So, confused, shite.

I would love it if they released the Night Birch with UFA, but instead it is still the hi-beat, ughh...

Any advice, please?

Don't tell me "buy what you like more", because that's what I am trying to do ...😛

[SBGN005] Still my favorite GS over the years.

I've been fortunate to own a few GS models now, from the Snowflake to other sporty/diver models in the GS lineup.

The SBGN005 9F GMT is the second GS I ever purchased and added to the collection, and it's become my mainstay. I've traveled to so many places wearing this piece on my wrist, and just everything about the case shape to its proportions just make it a fantastic daily wear.

One piece I can never get rid of!

GS titanium is so good

Huge fan of my Teisetsu, and the finish on that case and bracelet. For me, it’s even better than the finish on Blancpain’s Grade 23 Ti.

I’m actually fine with the Shunbun bracelet

It’s very nice. The titanium is light and cool on the wrist and the half links make adjustments to 3mm possible. I’ve got it perfectly sized to my wrist - very comfortable, not too tight or loose and stays firmly flat on top without moving forward or backward much.

My wrist doesn’t swell much in the heat, so not really worried about that.

Would the micro-adjust be nice? Sure, I guess…is it necessary? No.

Honestly, the only thing I’d change is the logo stamped on the case back…that’s a little disappointing anytime I want to admire the movement.

Heading to Japan soon, which to get?

Been doing some research and needing a GMT to add to my collection. Comes does to these 2, SBGE269 or SBGE279, mainly for the Spring Drive + white dials. Very similar and still quite unique in their own ways. Besides price, what other factors would you consider when making the decision between these 2? TIA

Could this be?

The only watch collection you’d need? Spirit Pilot 39 the Grand Seiko SBGX261? I find myself constantly keeping these 2 in rotation more so than any divers or field watches I own. What are y’all’s thoughts?

[Grand Seiko Snowflake SBGA211] - Spring Drive

Meet the Grand Seiko 'Snowflake'. I bought this watch in 2018. This was my first Grand Seiko and my most expensive watch at that time. After 8 years, I still love the watch like I did on the very first day.

The dial has a snow like texture inspired by wind-swept snow around the Hotaka mountains near Grand Seiko’s Shinshu Watch Studio (And hence named 'Snowflake' by watch lovers - this is not an official name from Grand Seiko).

Interestingly, the dial has a story. While developing the Snowflake, Grand Seiko's craftsmen searched their archives and discovered a textured dial sample made for a 56GS from 1971. That old design helped provide the technical basis for creating the Snowflake texture. The dial making is labor-intensive - Grand Seiko says more than 80 separate processes are required to finished the Snowflake dial. The applied hour indices are multi faceted and polished to perfection to achieve the mirror like shine.

The case (41mm) and bracelet is titanium and weighs only 100grams and is Zaratsu polished - hence very comfortable to wear and elegantly finished.

The heat-blued hands provide the perfect contrast.

The watch houses the amazing 9R65 spring drive movement with 72 hours of power reserve and accuracy rated to ±15 seconds per month.

Spring Drive combines mechanical power with quartz precision. A traditional mainspring generates electricity to power a quartz crystal, which precisely controls the movement’s speed through an electromagnetic brake mechanism. A spring drive's signature is the gliding seconds hand - the watch doesn't tick nor produce any ticking sound. To me, the blue seconds hand gliding across the snowy white dial evokes the feel of a lone skier sweeping across a snow covered mountain side.

The Grand Seiko “Snowflake” is arguably the watch that popularized Grand Seiko to the wider world and brings together nature, technology and traditional Japanese craftsmanship.

[SBGA443] I could stare at this dial for hours and still not be able to tell you what time it is

Finally added the Shunbun to the collection, and I completely understand the hype now.

I knew the dial was going to be special, but I wasn’t prepared for how much it changes depending on the light. Pink, silver, champagne, almost white at times—and then the indices and hands start throwing reflections everywhere while that Spring Drive seconds hand just glides across the whole thing.

I’ve caught myself staring at it repeatedly today without once actually checking the time.

Absolutely useless as a clock. 😂

10/10 watch.

SBGN009 arriving tomorrow, any strap or bracelet suggestions?

Hi all,

I joined a month or so ago to ask about Grand Seiko suggestions, and am now awaiting my 3rd GS watch, the SBGN009. See attached photo of the watch (although it won't arrive with me until tomorrow).

It comes on the original GS bracelet, however I typically don't wear the original bracelets or straps and leave them in the box with the papers.

Would anyone be willing to recommend me some aftermarket straps, and/or bracelets? Budget up to £100 pre-owned ideally, but equally happy to pay less and don't mind using AliEx if people can recommend specific sellers and models!

I also have an SBGP013 I got recently, and something that surprised me was how the dial appears almost black under most light, with the blue sunburst only really being obvious in direct sunlight or under fluorescent lighting. I'm looking forward to seeing how the dial on this reacts to different light :)

Thanks!
