I have only a month to find a new tenant and I don’t think I reach out for all the interested people so far.
I finished my PhD contract few months ago and I was supervised by two problematic PIs. When I enrolled for my PhD in this other country, I had no idea about how bad they are, but unfortunately I realize very quickly that my PhD will be difficult not only because of the sciences but mostly because of the PIs.
During the 4 years of my PhD, 3 other PhD students quitted their PhD because of their (PIs) inappropriate behavior. All of the PhD student were struggling and crying during and after 1v1 meeting. People were so scared to walk in front of their offices that they decided to avoid it as much as possible. During Lab meeting, it was basically public humiliation/execution. One of the PIs went through a « mediation » that basically was useless and didn’t change his behavior.
This 4 years in this lab were the worst of my life and I wish that someone would have told me before accepting their offer…
Now that my contract ended, I had a lot of time to recover and I realized that it’s just not normal. No one should be treated that way. Especially not for a job.
8-10 people complained to the PhD advisor in my previous department since beginning of 2026 and they started an investigation. I have testified against them.
I am afraid it will not change anything but what else can I do ?
I don’t want other people, young scientists, to get fool by this 2 persons.
Any advises ??
