Praying I can get some advice on this! I brought my car from Carmax, I did everything online and the process seemed okay. The car was located in Ohio which was okay, they couldn't ship the car for several weeks. I live in Chicago so I was okay picking up the vehicle since they assured me I may do express pick up.
Upon picking up the vehicle everything appeared okay. About a hour into driving back to Chicago I noticed there was an additional 1,100 miles on the vehicle then what was advertised. I take accountability for not saying anything sooner. I've had the car 4 weeks and its already in the shop for brakes, the screen and small issues. (Carmax has taking accountability for the repairs)
They applied a temp plate onto the car in Ohio and that was expiring soon (yesterday). Two days prior I went ahead to the DMV here in Chicago to get the vehicle registered and they inform me that I owe almost $3k in taxes on the vehicle.
I called the Ohio carmax where they pretty told me it wasn't much they could do and referred me to the Ohio DMV and Chicago DMV at which neither has been able to help and confirmed I will need to pay the taxes it.
Did Carmax drop the ball? What are my options, if any?
I just paid the first car note and it was financed through Ally. Any advice would be super helpful!
