Hood with draw string - double knitting vs foldover hem

Hi, I'm making the roomy balaclava and the instruction for the front opening is to either do 1x1 rib or double knitting.

I want to put a drawstring in to be able to tighten the front opening. Normally for drawstrings I do a folded hem. Wondering if there's any advantages to doing double knitting instead of folded hem?

I couldn't find many visual comparisons on google.
