SPUN-DAY August 2026

Happy SPUN-DAY everyone! For one Sunday of each month (I was really supposed to do it two weeks ago, I'm gonna try aim for the first/last Sunday each month now), we're gonna talk about what we think of what's on the Triple J airwaves.

The songs on rotation are always changing, so just wanted to see how we're feeling what's getting airtime at the moment. What we're loving, not loving, and wanting to hear more of.

Songs I'm loving:

Ninajirachi, Porter Robinson - WannaCry (who doesn't love this one, their chemistry is unreal)

Solly - FAIR DINKUM (easily one of my favourite songs at the moment, love how the rappers trade cheeky bars, fun production and Breakfast Road nail the falsetto in the book)

DMAs - Killing Time (love the guitar work)

Swapmeet - Bonny (nice chill soft rock tune, the risk of changing the lead singer pays off here)

Rum Jungle - Got Time (still confuse it with the above song)

Dev Lemons - eat the pavement (easy one of the best produced songs of the year, love the nostalgic pop/rock sound with a touch of RnB)

Beabadoobee - Sun Has Set (always drawn to Beabadoobee's sound, stoked for the album)

Songs I'm not loving:

Ennaria - UGLY (just not a fan of the sound, quite loud, gritty and overstimulating)

What I want to hear more of:

Anything from Swapmeet's Mount Zero album

What songs are you loving, what songs are you not loving, and what do you want to hear more of on Triple J?

Would you swap/change out any of your votes, or keep your list the same as last year?

ABC Country Feature Album

You know how Sam Lane and Latifa Tee have all those side quests for their breakfast fill in?

Sam Lane voiced the ABC Country feature album promo, and all jokes aside, the album sounds really good. What's the feature album for ABC Country this week again?

Why don't Triple J play Amy Shark anymore?

The Biggest Dick is the biggest hit on commercial radio. Amy Shark really got platformed by triple j when she broke out ten years ago, and was #2 in the 2016 Hottest 100, and had a few years of Hottest 100 domination. But they haven't played her since like 2019. They still play Billie Eilish who's become massively popular, and Amy Shark just disappeared off their playlist.

I just wondered if there was a reason behind it?

SPUN-DAY

Alright, so I thought I would try a bit of a new segment for this sub. Welcome to SPUNDAY!

On the last Sunday of every month, I'm going to be asking you how you're feeling the tracks on current rotation right now at Triple J. Tell me the songs you're loving, the songs you're not loving, and maybe some songs you want to hear more of.

I'll go first!

Songs I'm Loving:

Trophy Wyfe - Spiders (such a bright future for these young people, love the message re toxic masculinity)

The Rions, Matt Corby - How To Breathe (great vocal performances on both ends and cutting lyrics)

Ecca Vandal - VERTICAL WORLDS (enjoy the pop-punk cut, fuel for anything)

Drake - Janice STFU (probably my favourite track off ICEMAN)

Drifting Clouds - Rarrandharr (DC have gone two from two, is there anything they can't do?)

Kobie Dee - Aim For The Stars (Kobie Dee is one of our country's greatest MCs, tells a story and makes you vibe simulatenously)

fake mink. - Blow The Speaker (cool and interesting production)

Peach PRC - Hold It For Her (love the message of the song and the production)

DICE - COOLER (love the guitars in this one)

Beabadoobee, The Marias - All I Did Was Dream Of You (beautifully produced, reminds me of These Days by Powderfinger a bit)

Laufey - Madwoman (always wanting Laufey's vintage sound like a madman)

Song's I'm Not Loving:

3%, The Terrys - All Gucci (both talented artists in their own right, but this one just doesn't work)

Hooligan Hefs - Stuntn (past his prime unfortunately, feels like an ALDI version of a 50 Cent track)

Old Mervs - Tether (loved Heavy In The Morning, but this one's not my cup of tea)

Stormzy - 24 Hours (not his best work)

Gracie Abrams - Hit The Wall (get her a new producer, she can be quite samey)

Central Cee - WAGWAN (as a fan of CC, one of his weakest releases to date, the rapping is monotone and the beat is boring)

What are some of your favourite/least favourite songs on triple j rotation right now?

Loving this song right now

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZZaYkOG1Zk

I know we were talking about it a little while ago and rage featured it as their feature clip a few weeks back, but this track deserves its flowers. I'm really surprised it hasn't got high rotation on Triple J yet, cause this is a major consideration for a 2026 Hottest 100 vote for me. Getting that rotation will surely put this on more peoples' radars, particularly if they're fans of Innerspeaker-era Tame Impala.

Shout out Liminal, the Lismore, Northern NSW, psych rock band responsible for this track.
