help / advice pls!

I have had my hair dyed since I was about 16. My natural colour is a mousey brown. Initially I had blonde balayage at the ends and then I dyed it super dark brown (as seen in pics 2 and 3) and that has been my go to colour for about 8-9 years now. However, after about 4-6 months I always end up with this red colour (seen in pic 1).

I absolutely hateeeee it and have asked various hair dressers how can I keep it ashy but they basically don’t have an answer / tell me to dye my hair every 4-6 months to cancel it out. I really don’t want to damage my hair, as you can see from pic 1 it is already pretty damaged and my curl pattern is not great. this is from heat and excessive dying over the years i think.

i’ve had big chops where i’ve had a bob two or three times since i started dying my hair and so it’s not like it’s really old hair at the bottom. my last big chop was in june 2025 where it was a bob, and it’s grown as much as in pic 1 in a year.

i’m also conscious being so pale that lighter tones don’t really suit me. the blonde balayage was not a good look… 🤣

im in desperate need of another colour so im debating….

do i go ashy / mushroomy brown in an attempt to cancel out the red? like as seen on hailey bieber and in pics 4, 5 and 6

do i go for a slightly lighter dark brown rather than the almost black that i normally lean towards as seen in alexandra leclerc in pics 7 and 8?

or do i stick with the super dark brown and go back to the salon for a regular toner / do an at home toner or go back regularly for a dye?

anyone with experience in colour / dyeing hair and longevity i would be so grateful do some advice!!! <3
