Review this movie/story idea.
(This originally started as a movie idea so please replace the word movie with whatever you see fit.)
The entire movie is set in an ocean on a small sail boat, with only one or two protagonists.
It’s all either a one-take, found footage style (similar to Chronicle). Very minimalistic… apart from the audio. And little to no music.
The movie starts off as just the protagonist(s) doing normal things on a boat, normal sailing. Then at some point during the movie, sounds outside of the boat, coming from the ocean and/or outside the captain’s quarters (or whatever it is called) start or occur. It starts off with quiet noises. Barely distorted, distant whale noises. Abnormal soft splashing of waves. The sounds of fish swimming away rapidly. Then as the movie progresses the sounds get louder. Scratching on the bottom of the ship. More sea life noises that mix between normal and erratic. Then the noises get even more intense. Sounds start happening on the ship. Footsteps, doors banging. Gently slamming on the windows. Inaudible loud whispering voices. The final stage of the sounds becomes deafening to the protagonist(s) and they are start to go insane. Near constant noise, sea life going haywire. The banging does not stop. The voices are even less understandable but as loud as they can get. Absolute chaos, souly from audio alone. With moments during the sail to add silence. The protagonist either falls asleep from exhaustion, or suddenly everything stops. Silence. The protagonist looks out the window to only JUST see something leaving/passing the ship. Whether it be a humanoid creature or a ghostly silent ship. It is not fully shown, you see almost an inch of arm or ship. The protagonist is left traumatised and confused. Questioning what happened. Who or what was that? Why him? Did he go somewhere he shouldn’t have? Was it real or in his head? Was something actually there?
And the key part of it all. The entity is never shown. It’s up to audience interpretation whether it was all in the protagonist(s) head or a creature tormenting its prey before striking.
