New grad program

I’ve worked for this company for 11 years and recently transitioned from being a CNA into their new grad RN program at the hospital. About 4 months into my RN career, I was in a really bad car accident. The company initially waited for me to recover, which I appreciated, but my doctors have now restricted me to desk work only — no lifting or bedside duties right now.

I explained this to my employer and asked if there was any way they could work with me temporarily since I’ve been loyal to this company for over a decade. Instead, I was basically told I have about 2 months to return and fully complete the new grad program or I’ll be terminated. No flexibility, no discussion, just “you have to finish the program.”

What’s frustrating is I’ve seen exceptions made for other employees for various situations like when nurses have DUI’s they are not terminated , so it’s hard not to feel hurt that there seems to be zero willingness to work with me after 11 years with the company. I’m not refusing to work — I literally want to work, but my restrictions are currently limiting me to non-bedside roles while I recover from the accident.

Has anyone dealt with something similar as a new grad RN after an injury or medical issue? I did nothing wrong I was literally just in an accident that can happen to anyone. Were you able to transition temporarily into another role, extend residency timelines, or get accommodations? I’m feeling pretty discouraged and honestly scared about losing my job after everything. Any advice or insight would really help.. they already dumped out the shit I had in my locker too without notifying me , which is pretty fucked up too.
