LFP battery and "always be charging"
I currently have an AWD Long Range Model Y, and I’ll be getting an RWD Model 3 with an LFP battery in a few weeks. I’m trying to figure out the best charging routine.
For my Model Y, I usually keep it plugged in whenever I’m not driving and set the charge limit to 80%.
I’ve been reading mixed advice about LFP batteries, and I’m seeing a few different recommendations:
- Let the battery run down more and only charge to 100% when needed instead of always keeping it plugged in
- Set it to 80% for daily use, but charge to 100% every week or two for calibration
- Charge it to 100% every day
What’s the simplest and best approach?
I’m not looking to overcomplicate things. I only have one Level 2 charger, so I’ll likely rotate between both cars, with the other one using a standard 120V outlet.
