ECE or Nursing? Need to decide quick
Incoming freshman here deciding between BSN at UC Baguio and BSECE at SLU Baguio. I need honest input from actual ECE engineers before I make my final decision. My plan after graduating ECE is to work in IoT or Embedded Systems while building software skills on the side. I'm drawn to the intersection of hardware and software, smart devices, automation, and eventually remote work for foreign companies. I'm not planning the typical ECE career route like telco or broadcasting. I want something more technical and future proof. My main goal is simple. Love what I do and money will follow. I've been reading nursing comments all week and majority say they regret taking it. Most say they only enjoyed nursing while studying, not when actually working. That pushed me away from nursing completely. Some even started learning Software Engineering after being a nurse for 12 years. Board exam credential matters to my family so CS and IT are not options even though they're more direct paths to software. ECE is my only tech option with a board exam attached to it.
My questions are Is ECE worth it for someone targeting IoT and Embedded Systems with a software pivot planned after graduation?
What does the realistic career path and salary trajectory look like for someone with this specific plan?
Is the hardware knowledge from ECE actually useful when you move into software or does it become irrelevant?
And honestly, if you were an incoming freshman with my exact goals, would you still choose ECE?
