New Balance abandoned the SL-2 last ("wide toebox, narrower heel") to save money. Most shoes are now manufactured on narrower lasts, and will not adequately fit a wider toebox. For those with a truly wide forefoot, there are few if any available sports shoes. And the few who make a wider rounded toebox (e.g. Topo) do not offer 4E or 6E widths.

So, those with somewhat wide feet should be OK. However, those with truly wide forefeet and normal heel sizes, good luck!
