Heading to Leh in July for a bike circuit – Seeking advice on gear logistics and universal luggage recommendations
Hey everyone,
I’m flying from BLR to Leh this July for a bike tour, covering the Leh-Leh circuit (Khardung La, Pangong, Umling La). I’ve got the logistics and bike rentals planned, but I need some practical advice on how to handle my riding gear and luggage.
The setup:
Trip: Leh-Leh circuit (renting bikes locally).
Luggage: Using a Decathlon duffel as my cabin bag.
Gear: Bringing my own helmet, armored jacket, and riding boots.
My questions for the community:
Airport Strategy: For those who fly for their tours, do you just wear your riding jacket and boots through security? Any issues with CISF? How do you best manage your helmet alongside your cabin bag?
Luggage Recommendation: I need a check-in bag that I can use as a permanent tail bag for my Dominar 400 back home. I’m looking at options like the Viaterra Claw, Motowolf waterproof duffels, or SW-Motech Drybags (all of them suggested by Gemini). Does anyone have a preference for a Dominar 400 specifically? I want something that’s easy to strap down, waterproof, and holds up well for long-distance riding.
Weight Management: Since I'm limited to a 15kg check-in allowance, any creative ways to keep the weight down while hauling proper touring gear?
I’m leaning towards a waterproof duffel-style tail bag so I can skip the hard-shell suitcase, but I’m curious if that’s a practical way to handle check-in luggage.
Appreciate any tips or lessons learned from those who have done the Leh flight-and-ride route!
