Newborn girl isn’t getting enough milk
Our girl was born 8 days ago at 3500 grams
She turned out to have lost 12,5 % at day 3. She was exclusively breastfed up until then — almost constantly as we could never get her to calm down
Paediatricians now have us triple feeding, every 3 hours my wife nurses her before we then give her a bottle and she pumps. She is back up to a healthy weight
She latches perfectly fine and can suck no problem, several doctors, nurses and midwives have confirmed this
But my wife isn’t producing a lot of milk.
1 hour of pumping both breasts yield about 30 ml of milk at this point, and it’s been like that for days. She says she feels emptied out after pumping
On top of that, the baby doesn’t seem satisfied until she’s had about 75 ml of formula after feeding, when her total need should be about 70 ml
This makes me think she gets next to nothing from my wife
They all say she has a tongue tie which could make transferring difficult. But we’re not convinced cutting it will make a difference and we’re hesitant about the procedure
I guess I’d like to hear if someone has any tips or similar experiences to share?
We’re nearing a point of giving up and accepting that she’ll just have to get most of her nutrition from Nestle (formula) rather than her mom
Triple feeding is brutal and unsustainable and we don’t see any signs of the milk production going up
We’ve had so many people look at my wife breastfeeding and none of them can see anything wrong. Were told it looks perfect and her latch is good
