HR question about a work scandal [US]
There is an ongoing scandal at my place of employment. Essentially, two supervisors had affairs with a married subordinate. One of the spouses found out, and contacted the "CEO" (I don't want to doxx myself or employer, so I'll be a bit vague). The second affair was discovered in the investigation.
The subordinate in this case is married to an employee of the same organization.
So far, the fallout has been the subordinate was allowed to resign in lieu of termination. The unofficial line is that they were not honest in the investigation, and was let go for that. The supervisors have been put on two and three months unpaid leave as punishment. The senior of the two was denied an upcoming promotion and will not be considered in the future. The junior supervisor just got the two months unpaid.
I just want to know from actual HR pros, is there anywhere on Earth where sleeping with a married subordinate (I cannot emphasize enough that the two supervisors were this employees direct supervisors at the time of their affairs) does not end in termination? How much legal exposure does that leave the organization in?
This whole thing seems absolutely bonkers to me, but I am hoping to hear from professionals.
Thanks in advance!
