My 11-year-old daughter is screamed at and verbally abused out of the blue—approximately once every one or two weeks—by her volatile mother (we are separated). After an outburst lasting one to two hours, her mother apologizes. Naturally, this accomplishes nothing and leaves my child with lasting trauma. The authorities are doing absolutely nothing.

What advice can I give my daughter regarding how she should behave in these situations? What kind of mindset should she adopt when facing them?
