Backpack advice?

Sorry if this is a repeated question. I’m doing a training for some longer high altitude/ridgeline unsupported trails. Like the WURL (Utah) and major loops in the Wind river (Wyoming) or sawtooth (Idaho) mountains etc.

I know about the distance black diamond packs (like the 8 and 15) but have always felt chafing or weird fits. I’ve been using a 20 liter non running rei pack for most things but i finally shredded it on dense tree scramble the other day.

Is there any niche companies I just don’t know about?

Context:

I see all these vests with tiny pockets that could barely hold a rain jacket. I think that’s great but there’s trails I need to bring a water filter on or do water carries for 15 miles. (2+ liters) Also being at altitude and exposure brings the weather element and being prepared for that.

I’ve read a lot of blogs and stuff but it seems they all go towards the strict tiny vests or they just don’t really talk about actually having to carry gear. Maybe I’m not using the right search words???

Who I am: I’m an experienced alpinist and thru hiker that started asking myself why do I take 2 days when I could take 16 hours to do the same thing. Weirdly I’ve fallen in love with this style lately.

I almost never replace or upgrade gear (hence the horrible rei pack) till it’s been fully used, so I feel like i could be 5-7 years behind in brands or styles. (
