[Arabic > English] Author seeking cultural accuracy of Palestinian dialect
Hello,
I am an author and I want to make sure that my portrayal of my characters, who is a teenager and his parents came to the U.S. from Palestine is accurate. I want to make sure that the sections of Arabic are accurate and mindful of the dialect with his family being Palestinian. (I have used various translation options, but I still wanted to do a quality check as I am not a native speaker).
Scene 1: He rescues his mother. Here is what I have done so far.
"...Behind her stood a man Amir had never seen before.
“No…” The word barely escaped Amir’s throat.
“Yumma!”
Mother!
“Sā‘idni yā ibni…”
Help me, my son…
“Inti mniha?” Amir asked desperately.
Are you okay?
“Fī zalameh gharib hon… wa ana khayfeh,” she said shakily.
There is a strange man here… and I’m scared.
“Ma‘ah qawarir, wa mish ‘arfeh shu biddoh ya‘mil fihom.”
He has vials, and I don’t know what he wants to do with them.
Amir’s heart pounded.
“Ana jayy. Wa‘d.”
I’m coming. I promise.
The image cut away."
Scene 2:
"Amir was the last to speak.
He placed a hand over his heart.
“kirmalik ya Saraku… ana aasif.”
For your sake, Saraku…I’m sorry."
(This is one of his close friends and this is the moment where they all believe that she died but he had betrayed her trust and she never found out.)
