What does the "living in the wrong body" feel like?

I am a cis woman and just wanted to understand my close friend's experience better, since they are trans themself. I am asking this question with all love and absolutely no discrimination!

Being a part of the LGBT+ community, I've often heard trans people transition because they feel that they are "living in the wrong body", in other words, gender dysphoria. However, I am struggling to grasp the exact meaning... Is it feeling like being trapped in a body of the opposite sex?
