A Preply Scheduling Mistake That Cost Me My Super Tutor Status

TL;DR: A student moved a lesson from the following week to the next day, which happened to be a national holiday. I missed it because I thought students could not reschedule lessons that way. It cost me my Super Tutor status for three months and affected my ranking for months afterward. Now I block all my free slots for the next day before I go to bed.

This happened some time ago, but I thought I would share it with the community in case it helps someone avoid the same mistake.

One time, a student rescheduled a lesson that was originally scheduled for the following week and moved it to the very next day.

The problem was that the next day was a national holiday in my country. I had already asked my other students to reschedule their lessons, so I was under the impression that I had the day completely free.

I am usually quite careful about lessons. I have alarms set on my phone, and I keep Preply notifications enabled. However, I was under the impression that a student could not reschedule a lesson to the next day, so I never expected this to happen.

As a result, I missed the lesson.

That one missed lesson cost me my Super Tutor status for three months. My ranking dropped, and I did not receive any new trial lessons for at least two months.

I know some people will say that I should have been more careful and should have read the guidelines more closely. And honestly, they would be right. It was ultimately my responsibility to make sure I did not miss the lesson.

Still, I wanted to share this because I suspect there may be other tutors who are unaware that a student can move a lesson in this way.

So now, I have changed the way I manage my schedule.

Before I go to bed, I fill all my free slots for the following day with "busy." This means that students cannot book those slots while I am asleep.

It is highly unlikely that a student will book a lesson during the few hours that I am asleep anyway. Even if I miss out on a potential booking, I consider that risk far smaller than accidentally missing a lesson and having it affect my profile for months.

It may seem overly cautious, but after what happened, I would rather lose one possible lesson than risk losing my Super Tutor status again.

Payoneer hidden fees

I have been using Payoneer for almost two years now. I usually makes small transfers ranging from 100 to 400 USD. It usually takes 1 business day for me to get funds in my bank account. In such instances the fees predictable and vary between 8 to 15 USD depending on the amount.

But every now and then the funds get transferred within a matter of hours and there is a hidden fee involved that is around 40 USD which is insanely high for a small amount like 300 USD. This amount is not reflected in the transaction details.

This is infuriating since I absolutely do not needs funds faster if it means I am losing more than 10% of my money. Has anyone else gone through this issue and managed to resolve it? Any way we can dictate which route the funds are sent from Payoneer?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Performing an unauthorized action

I received a warning from Preply saying I performed an unauthorized action (sharing personal info, off-platform payment, or inappropriate behavior). I am not aware of violating any rules as I try my best to do things by the book.

Has anyone experienced this before? Does Preply usually specify what triggered it, or is it often automated/false positives? What is the best way to resolve it and make sure my account is safe?

And if it is a false positive, can I get that record cleared?

Vscode Live Share is not working

Starting collaboration session fails with HTTP 500 / 502 / 503/ 429 errors

I am consistently getting errors when trying to start a collaboration session. The error code changes between attempts and is usually one of the following:

  • 500 Internal Server Error
  • 502 Bad Gateway
  • 503 Service Unavailable
  • 429

What makes this unusual is that colleagues in multiple regions are seeing the same issue at the same time, including Australia, Sweden, Cameroon, and Sri Lanka.

So far we have tried:

  • Different networks
  • Different user accounts
  • Restarting VS Code
  • Retrying multiple times

The issue appears intermittent and server-side because the error codes vary between attempts.

Has anyone else experienced this recently, or is there an ongoing outage affecting collaboration sessions?
