My son has just turned 17 months. He has always been quite advanced in his gross motor skills. Walks, runs, jumps, climbs, tiptoes.
He also has good use of gestures, when told to he waves, claps, shh, knods his head yes, shakes his head no, he mostly open hands points and has done so for months but recently has began to index finger point but this isn’t consistent yet and he mostly defaults to open hand pointing.
He has good eye contact and responds to his name and basic instructions such as lay down, put this in the bin, bring me a book, bring me a toy e.c.t. He is also fairly good at doing the actions to majority of nursery rhymes.
My concerns mainly at the fact that he is obsessed with spinning objects mostly wheels on his buggy, but also toys cars and buses and prettty much any object that he can spin. He does occasionally turn his toys upside down to spin the wheel, but will also play with them normally as well and does do some imaginative play such as feeding / cuddling teddy bear putting people on the bus, Answering the phone, will comb his hair with my brush, try put on a hat e.c.t
He is also very fussy and has always refused majority of foods. He does occasionally try new things but still very fussy, however I think breastfeeding has a part to play as when away from me he seems to eat a bigger variety of things.
My biggest concern is his speech, he does babble a lot, and can say mama and dada, but doesn’t really use these intentionally. The only clear word he actually says with clear intentions is “oh no” if he breaks somethings, Falls overs e.c.t. He does try to copy words and fill in gaps in nursery rhymes such as “waa waa waa” on wheels on the bus or “roars” when he sings row row row your boat. He attempts to copy some words such as cheese, blue and yeah, but they’re not very clear.
Other things I’ve noticed is that he will run up and down allot, he head buts me when frustrated or wants something. He also loves pushing and pulling objections and standing on things,
I’m in the UK so they don’t do much untill closer to 2-3 years old. Any one notice any similar symptoms?
Any advice on what I could do to enhance his speech
