F1 Visa – First Time Applicant (Age 23, Gap + Slot Issue) – Need Honest Advice

Hi everyone, I’m a first-time F1 applicant (no refusals yet) and I need some honest guidance.
I’m 23 years old and planning to go for a bachelor’s in the US. I completed my intermediate in mid-2024, and I have around a 1-year gap. I also had to do intermediate twice, and I have a bit of private work experience during this time.
I want to understand realistically:
How big of a concern is age (23) + gap + repeating intermediate for visa approval?

What should I prepare very strongly for the interview in my case?

How to explain gap and academic history properly without creating doubt?

Also, I’m facing a slot issue:
I can only see visa slots after my program start date

If I book that and later request an emergency/expedited appointment, is it actually getting approved these days?

I’m trying to understand the current ground reality, not just theory.
Any recent experiences or honest advice would really help.
