What do you guys talk about with your families?

Happy Mother’s Day, I went to my grandmas to celebrate. I barely talk when I’m with my family because I have nothing to say, but it seems like they have nothing to say either. Most of the conversation is about money: what they’re spending their money on, their job (how they get money), what the plan to spend money on.

I feel disconnected because I’m the only one in a non traditional route, I dropped out of college and work at a restaurant and I’m younger. I feel priced out of conversations I guess. I can’t talk about my plans to travel internationally or what car I’m buying or what I’m saving for. I have a cousin my age but we never have much in common. When I ask what’s new with him he says “nothing”. And we don’t really vibe, I don’t think he’s a bad person we just don’t click.

I always have to be alone after I spend time with family because I feel so disconnected and wonder why people say that family is the most important thing in the world. I only feel that way after being with my friends.

Anyways maybe I don’t know how to have conversations with older people so I’m just curious what you guys talk about.
