I need help figuring out why this will not spin without me moving the spinner once I move the spinner it seems like something connects and then it'll spin until it tries to go the other way. The belt is connected and doesn't seem loose I'm not sure what the issue could be please help SOS

I need help figuring out why this is smoking and making weird noise. It only starts smoking when spinning one way and makes really loud noise, when spinning the other way it seems to be fine. Please help me before I take this apart and make more problems for myself SOS
