Those taking daily valacyclovir, please help
I 30M was recently diagnosed with HSV2. Confirmed via swab. My first outbreak was very mild (about 7 small bumps) The worst of it was probably the prodrome I experienced before I noticed the lesions which was just an intense itching. No pain.
The day I noticed the OB I got checked and prescribed anti virals for the episodic treatment. They have since healed (7 days).
I was very unwell (as I’m sure many people are upon hearing their diagnosis) but my anxiety has caused me to elect to go on daily antiviral therapy. I’m on 500 mg of valacyclovir daily.
My reasoning for being on daily suppressive therapy is to reduce my risk of transmission to others.
My question here is specifically for those folks who are on daily antivirals and have been for quite some time. I’m seeing a lot of mixed information online (people who never had a recurrent outbreak/people who have had frequent outbreaks) so I guess I’m just trying to get some real world insight from people’s personal experiences.
1.) on average how many outbreaks do you have a year?
2.) what is the longest that you’ve gone without an outbreak?
3.) to your knowledge have you passed the virus on to anybody else?
4.) what are your triggers?
