Is it possible to live off of $70k a year?

I recently received a job offer in Albany, though the pay leaves a lot to be desired. I'm originally from East Greenbush, but my parents moved me down to Mississippi when I was in my late teens and this is the first opportunity I've had to leave the state in my 13 years of living here. Unfortunately I have no family left back home to get a cost of living reference from and I've been gone way too long to even guess. A quick check of average rents online seems to indicate it's at least possible, but I'm hoping for a more complete picture. I'm rather desperate to escape, so I need a sanity check as well. I'm a single dude with two cats and don't expect to have anything more than a small apartment.
