36 F and 32 M, misleading on travel plans?
I’ve been with my bf for five years and we recently moved in together. I invited him on a family vacation and he declined, which is standard. It was a bit of a point of contention because he rarely attends any family functions, like Christmas, thanksgiving, etc. I got bummed about the decline and we had a little tiff about it. This tiff took place at a wedding of a friend of his. It wasn’t public but not ideal. However, the night of the wedding we resolved the tiff and had a normal night. He got drunk and I drove home two hours. The trip was never brought up again by me. Cut to the actual trip, I go by myself but leave for roughly 36 hours to play a soccer tournament. I don’t tell my bf I’m doing this because he typically chastises me for playing and makes fun of it. He thinks I’m obsessed with soccer and it’s a sore point in our relationship. I figured it didn’t impact him because I’m gone anyway. At some point during the tournament, he asks what I’m doing, assuming I’m still with my family. I tell him I’m walking around but not telling him I’m playing. The next day I let him know I went to play soccer with my friends and he is furious that I lied to him and that I got upset he wasn’t going on this trip that I clearly don’t care about. I apologized but explained that part of the reason I didn’t share is because he makes fun of me for playing so much. Thoughts?
