Hey everyone,

I’m part of a small electronic music collective (we play mostly speed garage, UK garage, hardgroove), and we’re thinking about upgrading our sound system.

Right now we’re running:

  • 4x the box Pyrit 212 Sub A (2 active with DSP + 2 passive with amp/crossover)
  • Tops: 2x the box pro DSX 115 + 2x DSX 112

It’s been doing the job for smaller parties, but now we’re starting to throw bigger events, like open air ~1000 people, and also indoor stuff around the same size.

The main issue is coverage — it gets loud in front but drops off pretty hard in the back, so we’re looking for something more even and controlled.

I’m thinking about selling the tops and moving to something like a compact line array / constant curvature system, like the PreSonus CDL10P or CDL12P.

From what I’ve seen, they seem interesting for coverage and clarity, but I’ve also read mixed opinions about how well they actually “throw” and scale for bigger crowds.

So I had a few questions:

  • Is there a big real-world difference between CDL10P and CDL12P?
  • For ~1000 people (indoor or outdoor), how many boxes per side would you realistically need?
  • Is going for this kind of system even a good idea, or would I be better off with better point source tops instead?

Budget is around 3000€ for tops only (we’ll keep the subs for now).

Also very open to alternatives in that price range — ideally something that works well for electronic music (clean highs, solid mids, and that sits well with subs).

If anyone here is running similar setups for DIY events / raves / open airs, I’d really appreciate some real-world feedback.

Thanks!
