I originally placed an order for a Model Y RWD on March, estimated delivery date is Aug to Sep, but after looking more closely at the current pricing in Canada, I ended up cancelling and ordering a Model 3 RWD instead, with an estimated delivery date Jun.

Main reasons:

The Model 3 RWD is about $5,000 cheaper before tax…

For my use case (mostly commuting), I don’t really need the SUV space.

One thing that surprised me:

The $250 order deposit is NOT transferable between orders

I checked with multiple Tesla advisors in the Vancouver area and they all confirmed it — if you switch models, you basically lose the deposit and have to place a new one.

A bit annoying, but even factoring that in, the Model 3 still made more sense financially. But well, I have to sell my Model Y’s accessories like floor mats, trunk mats lol!

Curious if anyone else in Canada made the same switch recently? Also wondering if Model Y will have a price drop if they start importing from China rather than Germany?
