What an I looking at here?? What should I do?
**it's not letting me edit or comment on my pictures so I will try to describe them by the order they show up in.
PICS:
Day 1-- May 2, 2026-- wagon pics from the day of the swap with my haul that I took home, a pic of my bathroom shelf & the pics with blue towel in the background.
Today: Me holding the plant in the air & 1 pic of my shelving unit where they live with led lights (not shown are 2 humidifiers and a fan in the same room).
I got this unknown named hoya at a swap earlier this month. It was still cold outside that morning, and my plants and I were outside for about 4 hours in roughly 45°F weather..... I'm only adding that info bc many of my other plants, like babysitting tomato or pepper plants didn't do well bc of being outside in the cold for that long.
This Hoya had 3 leaves when I got it. It was planted & basically sitting in mud, in a pot. The previous owner told me that she'd never had hoyas live very long before bc they always die, so she gave me this one. She said that the white patch on the back of the leaf had been there since she got the plant 4 months ago. She said it hadn't changed at all but she didn't know what it was. I didn't see any bugs or remnants of bugs or anything else on the plant, besides the likely root rot so I took it home.
By the time I got home, two leaves fell off. I don't know if they fell off because they were jostled in the car and smashed if it was simply because they were already dying. The last leaf (in the pics) had that white patch on the bottom, but the leaf was completely green on the top. I got rid of the mud, chopped off all the dead roots (which was everything but the taproot), cleaned it all up, rinsed it in a very diluted castile soap and water bath, then rinsed it again in plain water, and let it sit overnight to callous off. The next day, I decided to try to root it in water. I've never rooted a hoya in water, but I definitely didn't expect it to be this easy! So now the roots are starting to grow pretty well!
However, after this guy was sitting in water for a week, I noticed this dark spot on top of the leaf which is directly above the white patch-- it was not there when I got the plant. The white area still doesn't appear to have changed at all on the bottom of the leaf. I thought maybe it was too close to the light or that the light burned it, but it doesn't seem likely because many of my other hoyas and other plants are that close to that fake LED grow light (as seen in the pictures) and they are thriving. I don't remember how many hoyas are on the shelf right now as many of my plants are more safe to be outside during the day.
Anyway, long story, short can you please tell me what the hell I'm looking at? What should I do with this one? Chop the leaf off? Is it any type of pest or anything that could harm my other plants if I leave it on there? The leaf keeps looking like it's going to fall off, but the sap (or whatever you call it in Hoya's) glues it back on. The dark patch hasn't grown. It's still just sitting right above the white part & less the same shape and size of the white part. Also, that white on the bottom of the leaf is the same color white as the "sap" that keeps gluing the leaf back on.
HELP!
