Where are the people that want Giannis to stay and retire a Buck?
It's been about 4 years straight of Giannis trade rumors yet he's still here. He's the best player in our franchise history by a country mile. Most here don't remember Kareem but he bolted for LA as soon as he got the chance. Then we had to wait 50 years for another of his caliber. And we may have to wait another 50 for the next one.
I became a Bucks fan in the late 90s when Ray Allen and Big Dog were around. We had a couple decent seasons, and one great one in 2001 with a sour ending. Then George Karl blew up the franchise on his way out, trading prime Ray Allen for about 20 games of The Glove, before both he and Karl left.
That move set us up for 15 straight years of either being terrible or fighting for the 8 seed. The one season we actually had a chance to make it out of the 1st round in those days, Bogut slipped off the rim in a freak accident and snapped his elbow backwards.
Finally our diamond in the rough came along. And Giannis came out of nowhere to quickly become a top 20 player of all-time and got us our first championship in 50 years, with a decade straight of being in contention. A few more poorly timed injuries to Giannis, Dame, Brook, and Middleton, mixed in with two straight terrible coaching hires prevented us from getting a second.
Now we've finally moved on from Doc with a coach that actually has some promise and seems to care. Doc felt like he was completely checked out his entire time here, and was only showing up to collect a fat paycheck.
I get that Giannis doesn't always say what we want him to say in interviews, and we'd prefer him to handle his interviews like Jokic by immediately shutting down rumors and saying he doesnt want to leave, and end it at that. Giannis loves to talk, and often times that's to his, and the fans' detriment. He always creates great soundbites for the national media to cling on to, and jam down our throats. But in all his interviews with the local reporters (Journal Sentinel), he always says he loves it here, and wants to stay.
I, for one, throughoughly have enjoyed watching every second of Giannis on the Bucks and don't want to watch a rebuilding team until he retires. And I want him to retire a Buck. I know I'm in the minority (of r/mkebucks posters) that think he is going to stay. Where are the others that agree?
