Laid off...what next?
AI layoffs hit me earlier this week and now I've sort of processed it but have no idea what's next.
I’ve never been laid off before and my partner has absolutely no idea how to help me. They’ve never been unemployed before.
My union negotiated everything and my last paycheck and my last "day" will be in July. I know I need to register with Arbetsförmedlingen and I have a meeting with some people at my union to go over next steps too.
I’ve been paying for income insurance and union dues for over three years now. For a while now, my overall plan is to go back to school, and maybe this is the sign? But I need to take SVA 1 - 3 (I dropped out after SVA grund when I got my job) and do a science base year. I could hustle through some full-time, 5-week courses to try to get in for a base year intake in January '27, or wait until the fall '27 intake?
What do you guys think? Go full-time and get CSN? Or sit on A-kassa as long as possible while doing my Swedish course part-time before going full-time once I'm in the science base year? I’m not sure how employable a marketer who doesn’t speak Swedish fluently will be. I'm just very lost and my partner's reaction is more of a shrug.
