So I have a question... Why do some people always say one Mississippi every time it thunders? I am at work and I heard people counting "1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi" and so forth. I tried to ask why they do that every time, but they just responded that it was a habit and they never understood why.

I want to know what's the context behind it, and why?
