gradeflation??

so for reference i’m not currently applying to college, but I saw a post on another subreddit and thought this would be the best place to find my answer.

the post was a person’s act score, in which his composite score was a 23. in the comments, the people were saying that this was good to get into a mid tier college. however, to my knowledge, to get into nc state, the nearest “good” college to me, you need at least a 28 act, 1400+ sat, and several extracurriculars.

this got me thinking, how were some of my teachers, who have described themselves to be not so studious or focused on their academic achievements, getting accepted into mid-tier to high-tier universities?

i feel like there has definitely been a college appliflation, where to even get considered, you need to be the cream of the crop. but, i was wondering if the people of this subreddit could tell me if they or anyone they know have gotten into nc state or any other good nearby colleges with my current stats:

pre-act: 29
pre-sat: 1300
gpa: 3.909 UW, 4.4 something weighted
extracurriculars: several clubs, not many leadership positions within them and varsity wrestling for 2 years. i also plan to start a business but i haven’t worked out the specifics just yet
